I am an AI researcher at the University of Calgary and an incoming Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, starting in January 2027 under the supervision of Dr. Steve Drew. My doctoral research will focus on the security of AI agents: safeguarding agents against manipulation and misuse, and protecting the systems and environments they interact with from being exploited through them.

Since January 2026, I have been a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering, studying privacy and data protection in Canadian mobile health applications. Before that, I worked on contract as a Data Scientist at Suncor Energy from May 2024 to December 2025, building machine learning models, data pipelines and dashboards with Python, SQL, Azure Machine Learning, Databricks and Power BI.

I completed my M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Calgary in 2023 with a 4.0 GPA under the supervision of Dr. Geoffrey Messier, applying machine learning to confidential mental health, homelessness and social services data. This work led to a paper in IEEE Access and a federated learning paper at the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society (AIES 2024) with Dr. Drew. I received my Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, in 2021.

My research interests are trustworthy and privacy preserving AI, federated learning and the security of agentic AI systems. In the long term, I plan to build an academic career in AI research and teaching in Pakistan.

I enjoy reading comics, cooking, table tennis, watching anime and playing Dota 2!
